Plans for The Rock at Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 29 Revealed

On Raw 1,000, The Rock announced he’d be getting a WWE title shot at Royal Rumble 2013.

The announcement was no surprise, either, given the fact “The Great One” has publicly made his WWE championship intentions known since April.

While Daniel Bryan and a host of others hope to be the champion next January, it is CM Punk who will likely continue to carry that distinction.

During Raw 1,000’s final moments, it was Punk who ultimately turned heel, driving a knee into the temple of The Rock.

Seemingly, Punk’s dastardly, unbecoming actions have set in motion a feud that will move into high gear when Rock returns in time for the Rumble.

The question on the tips of WWE fans’ tongues, though, is what will happen if or when Rock and Punk collide in the center of the ring for the WWE title?

According to the members-only section of (reported, very auspicious plans are in store for The Rock:

…The Rock is scheduled to win the WWE Title at the 2013 Royal Rumblepay-per-view and then defend it against John Cena at WrestleMania 29.

In such a scenario, Cena would probably get his “win” back against The Rock on the big stage.

Regardless of a different outcome, however, the match has been done before, tiring fans over its year-long hype train and soon-to-be-released DVD/Blu-ray retrospective.

Although WWE is adamant about forever feeding Cena’s image, it is Punk vs. Rock that should be the end game, not a retread from WrestleMania 28.

As the results of a Twitter poll on Raw 1,000 showed, fans are more inclined to see Punk vs. Rock (55 percent) over Cena vs. Rock again (35 percent).

Granted, if Steve Austin agrees to come out of retirement to wrestle Punk, it would be a different story.

But as things stand today, the main event of WrestleMania 29 should be Punk vs. Rock.
