The potential of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin appearing in another match at WrestleMania 39 was mentioned in last week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It was noted that there had been recent conversations and that there is “smoke to the fire.” There are apparently two rumours surrounding Austin that are circulating, despite the fact that Austin himself avoided commenting on them.
The first would have him teaming up with a rookie wrestler, similar to how Kevin Owens did last year, and that guy would essentially carry the match in a simple brawl where Austin would go over but the wrestler in question would rise as a result of working with Austin. Here, Austin Theory and Baron Corbin have been proposed as names.
In the second scenario, there would be a dream match between John Cena, Brock Lesnar, or CM Punk. However, it would be impossible for Punk to compete unless he is released from his AEW contract and waives his WrestleMania non-compete clause. The WWE would want to have Roman Reigns vs. The Rock for the other night’s main event if they are successful in making the Austin dream match happen.
