Jim Ross recently discussed a variety of topics on his Grilling JR podcast.
CM Punk’s commentary talents on AEW Dynamite last week were discussed during it.
“He was fantastic. I’m not saying that to kiss his a** because some people feel compelled to do so, and he didn’t like it. He despised being kissed on the a*ss. I was very honest with Phil, and as a result, we developed a wonderful friendship. On those TV days, he and I spent a lot of time together. He’s a natural performer. He’s as excellent as any ex-wrestler who walked into that role for the first time and accomplished it. It’s incredible. He knew when to use a soundbite and when to leave it at that. He’s a natural at it.”
“I can assure you that working with him on an AEW TV show in any shape, form, or fashion would be a blast, and we’d set a high bar for our comrades. As a result, he was just outstanding. There had been no rehearsals. We all want to be genuine, real, and honest with our audience in the hopes of telling interesting stories while also remembering to connect the dots on angles and plots. Before he arrived here, he had been following the show constantly, and we watched it for the first time in Chicago. He is knowledgeable about the product and is up to date on the current events of our episodically produced television show. I was blown away by his performance. He was really fantastic.”
