Claudio Castagnoli, also known as Cesaro in the WWE, made his AEW debut last night at Forbidden Door. While it’s not clear whether the two parties have reached a formal deal, Fightfulselect.com reports that the parties have been negotiating a “long term” contract. Additionally, the promotion had been getting ready for his arrival by printing products and promotional materials beforehand. Claudio wasn’t hidden either at Forbidden Door; he was visible backstage all night.
Claudio decided to leave WWE in February after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal with the organisation. Since he didn’t have a no-compete clause in his contract, he decided to maintain a low profile after leaving WWE because some people thought he might return at a later date. That won’t be occurring anytime soon if the long-term deal mentioned above is accurate.
